Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialization requires up to 6 additional years of hospital based surgical and general anesthesia training. Dr. Schelkun completed his four years of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at the University of Missouri Schools of Medicine and Dentistry and Truman Medical Center in Kansas City Missouri. He then completed medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. This was followed by another year of residency training at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago Illinois. This year included additional training in plastic and reconstructive surgery, otorhynolaryngology, craniofacial surgery and trauma surgery. Dr. Sayles completed his training at the six year combined program of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Medical School at Drexel University School of Medicine, Hahnemann Hospital Medical Center and St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
Dr. Schelkun is a board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is Board Certified by the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. Sayles is Board Eligible and is in the process of completing his board certification. As Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Drs. Schelkun and Sayles manage a wide variety of problems relating to the jaws and facial region. Dr. Schelkun and Sayles practice the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with expertise in wisdom tooth removal, dental implant surgery, extractions, general anesthesia, sedation, Corrective / Reconstructive Jaw Surgery, Facial Pain, Facial Injuries, Head and Neck Pathology and TMJ disorders.
The surgical staff at our facilities are registered nurses and licensed practical nurses and experienced oral and maxillofacial surgical assistants, who assist in administration of intravenous anesthesia and surgery. The surgical staff is BCLS (CPR) certified. The surgeons and registered nurses are ACLS and PALS certified.
Our State of the art surgery centers in Warminster, Richboro and Fort Washington are fully accredited by Joint Commission (formally JCAHO). We are proud to have the only Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Centers in the Delaware Valley that have this distinction. The Joint Commision is the same organization that accredits hospitals, medical centers and other health care facilities.
