Michael T. Dachowski, D.M.D. native to the Montgomery/Bucks county area, is the oldest of six brothers, originally from Willow Grove. Dentistry and patient care has been a part of his life from the beginning, with exposure and example through his father, "Dr. Ed," who practiced over 45 years in Willow Grove.
Mike and his brothers were active members of St. David's Boy Scout Troop 305, where they all earned the rank of Eagle Scout. All of the brothers attended La Salle College High School. It was through a service project in his junior year that Mike was introduced to patient care at Holy Redeemer Hospital. That position evolved into an opportunity to care for many medical and surgical patients, working as a nursing assistant/orderly throughout his years at La Salle College. He credits this experience as a catalyst in directing his professional career. When Mike entered the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1981, his goal was to some day return to Holy Redeemer as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. At La Salle College, Mike served as president of the premedical-dental society, Alpha Epsilon Delta as well as the president of the jazz band, and graduated Cum Laude.
Mike's interest and commitment to the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery grew from several influences during his years at Penn. He was a teaching assistant in the subject histology to the dental students after his freshman year. Additionally, by his junior year, Mike added externships in Anesthesiology as well as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to his curriculum, spending a majority of his senior year at The Medical College of Pennsylvania and Presbyterian Medical Center in the departments of Dental Medicine and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. He served as Chairman of the Ethical Board at the University of Pennsylvania as well as the Vice President of his senior class.
Upon graduating in the top of his class from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Mike Dachowski was a resident at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in the Department of Anesthesiology, during 1985-86. His tenure included training in the full scope of anesthetic practice, including cardiothoracic surgery as well as general, orthopedic, obstetric, otolaryngology, neuro surgery, and maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Dachowski attended his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC from 1986-89. He was Chief Resident during the year, 1988-89. There, he received advanced training in the variety of surgical and medical specialties. Working closely with disciplines of Plastic Surgery and ENT surgery, he gained extensive experience in maxillofacial trauma surgery, management of head and neck cancer, associated wound management with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, craniofacial and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck, temporomandibular joint reconstruction, preprosthetic oral surgery, and dental implant surgery. These were the early years of what has now become a popular modality for patients with lost teeth.
Dr. Dachowski entered private practice at Holy Redeemer Hospital and Medical Center in September, 1989, a goal he had set for himself as that young orderly from La Salle High School. Since that time, he has served the hospital and local communities in his capacity as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Additionally, Dr. Mike is staffed at Abington Memorial Hospital, providing maxillofacial surgical services for trauma victims with severe facial injuries as well as inpatients with oral facial related medical issues.
In 2006, after years of working together on major facial reconstructions and establishing Holy Redeemer Hospital as a center for this type of surgery, Dr. Dachowski and Dr. Schelkun and Schwartz merged their practices. Together, their goal remains to offer and provide the highest level of advanced surgical care to their community.
